Therapeutic Yoga

Yoga Therapy is a personalized approach to health, healing and freedom from pain. Many times pain in the body is a signal that there is dysfunction and compensation that we don’t even know we have. Or we have been pushing through pain for so long it is the only way we know how to carry on.

Therapeutic Yoga can help you find function again, and in profoundly simple ways.

Through a system of ease and relaxation, then building stability and strength, your body will rediscover what moving through a pain-free range means again. Learning how to move the major joints in their optimal range of movement (specifically for you), leads to dissolving pain or tension and ultimately results in better functional movement overall.

Who can Benefit from Yoga Therapy?

Whether you are in chronic pain from an injury or illness, pre- or post- surgery, or wanting to have a more optimum yoga practice, yoga therapy can help you. Therapeutic yoga is a gentle and effective system of movement and breath that is safe for all ages and levels of mobility.

When muscles become chronically contracted from misuse, physical and emotional stress, and injury and trauma, the body becomes imbalanced. Years of adjusting to these changes can lead to chronic pain that is immobilizing both physically and mentally. These 4-week series provide a place to learn a new way of being with your pain through mindfulness. Class is held in chairs with some standing movement. No yoga experience required. Bring a small blanket and chair cushion for more comfort.
Cultivating mindfulness through:

  • Gentle movement therapy called Somatics
  • Mindful breathing techniques
  • Mudra (hand gestures) and Mantra (chants)
  • Mindfulness Meditation

Pain Free at Work and Home - Jan-Feb 2018

This 75 minute class guides you through a series of gentle, safe Somatic exercises, which, when practiced daily (or hourly) at your desk, will teach you to release tight, painful back, neck and shoulder muscles that have simple "forgotten" how to relax.

These muscles learn to stay tight due to long hours seated at a desk and they contribute to back, jaw, neck, shoulder, arm, and wrist pain. A few minutes each hour is all you need to remind these muscles to relax, release and "refresh," which will reduce or eliminate typical office pain and contribute to more energy during and after work.
