Back Clinic Series

Tuesdays, 5:30-6:30pm

Geared for the lay person with back pain, this class guides the participants through a self assessment to identify their specific pain triggers. This knowledge is then used to guide how to avoid the pain triggers (remove the cause) followed by an exercise progression matched to the individual’s needs (through the class and specifically through the private session). The guidance is evidence based and follows the teachings of Stuart McGill, PhD, author of “Back Mechanic”.

This series is meant for those who have some mobility and is not meant to take the place of a physician or physical therapist. This material has been proven to effectively help individuals with practical steps toward recovery from back pain.

To be the best prepared, I suggest ordering the book in advance to familiarize yourself with the step by step McGill Method that we’ll be using in class: “Back Mechanic”.


Yoga Nidra with Tibetan Singing Bowls

Join Jill Johnson and Deb Yoder for the ultimate relaxation experience. Jill’s voice will guide you through a yoga nidra (deep meditation) as Deb’s Tibetan bowls weave soft melodies through your consciousness.

There is space for 10 to enjoy this healing practice. Bring a mat, pillow and/or blanket for extra comfort. The cost is $20 for an hour of sublime relaxation.

Pain Free at Work

This 75 minute class guides you through a series of gentle, safe Somatic exercises, which, when practiced daily (or hourly) at your desk, will teach you to release tight, painful back, neck and shoulder muscles that have simple "forgotten" how to relax.

These muscles learn to stay tight due to long hours seated at a desk and they contribute to back, jaw, neck, shoulder, arm, and wrist pain. A few minutes each hour is all you need to remind these muscles to relax, release and "refresh," which will reduce or eliminate typical office pain and contribute to more energy during and after work.

No yoga mat required, wear comfortable clothes. Space is limited. You'll leave with a handout of 3 short somatic sequences to do at your desk throughout your day. Classes held at 4th Avenue Yoga, 1815

A daily Somatic Exercise practice reminds your brain how to release tight muscles so they can move more efficiently. It prepares your entire body to move with renewed balance, coordination and flexibility - and without pain.
